It seems that Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has recently had a change of heart. Parting from his usual #KillWhitey rhetoric, Mugabe is
begging asking White farmers to return to their farms in Zimbabwe. He is promising to reverse some of the controversial land reforms made by his administration and give land back to White farmers.
In 2000, the land reforms evicted over 4000 White farmers from their lands.
The Zimbabwean Minister of Finance, Patrick Chinamasa, had this to say:
“…we have an obligation under the constitution of Zimbabwe to compensate white farmers who lost their land during the land reform programme. It is not out of intention that we are delaying to implement the compensation process, but rather an issue of scarce resources which are needed to fully carry out the programme.”
Will the White farmers trust the government of Zimbabwe and return? I’m pretty sure Johnny Cash here embodies the sentiment of the White farmers.
Long Live Rhodesia!
